Trip Summary
leaving the boat ramp late it Didn’t take long to find the fish, small sporadic bust up gave away the positions of a large school of kings working bait in deep water.
On fly the surface fishing was sporadic and fly selection was crucial as the fussy fish inspected every detail. Well balanced surf candy’s of the bigger variety seemed to do the trick for casting at surface feeding kings, I had some success with blue/white decievers cast into bust ups and left for dead to be grabbed by a king bellow the bait.
The stand out of the day were large squid and bait flys on fast sinking line cast out and retreaved at depth, 6/10 cast produced fish and another few were lost. Even producing a great size flat head on the squid fly.
Soft plastic was fishing ok with 9” white soft plastic stick baits working a treat. Lots of follows from surface feeding fish. But working the bottom under bait schools is producing good flathead.
Fresh squid strips were smashing the kings and a poor mans downrigger found the fish when they moved on.
Live yellow tail were attacked but mostly spat out bruised and battered.
There is great fishing all over the harbour right now.
