The Catch

We were fishing a full day offshore deep sea charter with a resident and his visiting parents. Shortly into our trip just out from the North wall we came across a mother whale and her calf moving very slowly as if they were soaking up the warm sunshine too. We see various types of whales migrating through our waters quite often but seeing a mother and baby was quite an amazing site so we observed them for a while and then parted ways.
Following a weed line on our way to the 12 mile bank we landed a very nice mahi and hooked 2 others that jumped off. Once on the bank we hooked up on some great eating Blackfin tuna which were iced for shashimi later.  There were some really nice yellowfin tuna jumping out there but werent hitting anything.  A few passes in the deep bait was nailed and line peeled from the shimano 50, instantly you know that blistering run of a wahoo. This fish took 100 yards of line and took over 20 minutes to land the +50 pound el Tigre.
On the way back we hooked up on a nice blue marlin that shook the hook on the run, that’s fishing sometimes, we’ll have to get him tomorrow.
