Snapper on Fly
It was a bit breezy today so we were going to stay in the calmer waters and do some inshore reef fishing with the doctor and his lovely family visiting from Chicago. Anchored up, using spinning tackle and cut bait we were catching some nice snappers and yellow tail which are grat eating and fun on light tackle. With enough fish on ice for dinner we turned our attention to getting a fish on the fly rod he had brought with him. Using a steamer that resembled a silverside, we trolled the patch reefs making casts near to the coral heads, one or two small jacks and a few casts later a very nice mutton crashed the steamer and inhaled it stripping line like there was no end. This fish put up a fight and was an amazing battle on a light weight fly rod, quite an accomplishment just keeping it out of the reef, congratulations Doc.
