Well the cold came and it’s almost gone, it’s been a warmer than normal winter with some sharp cold spikes. This report is for the last 5 trips I ran. The early morning bite has produced some absolutely monster trout, the trout have been sitting in really shallow mud holes through the bay, we’ve been getting them on top water, nothing is as cool as seeing a 30in trout hit a top water plug in less than a foot of water. Its like a semi running down the highway that runs into those barrels of water that buffer medians, it’s epic to watch. The redfish bite has been excellent as well, we have either been fishing feeder creeks with live shrimp or throwing soft plastics on the flats. The snook have just started to stage outside of there deep winter spots and starting to feed on the regular without much initiative. This coming month is going to bring in big schools of 40 to 60lb black drum, trout will begin there spewing migration and school up by the thousands. Depending on the water temp we will see our first resident Tarpon show up in there pre spawning pattern. It should be a killer season this year. The best months for Florida flats fishing are right around the corner.
