Summary

While catching bait this morning I was more excited than other days. Mike from Pennsylvania had made reservations almost a month ago and was arriving on the Quantum of the Seas, to fish in the morning session. Cruise Ships usually come in late so I baited up and waited. The bite has been early so I knew I had my work cut out for me. My sister charter went out early and had 4 out of 7 tarpon and jacks. As we got out there the bite had past and things did not look fishy. Never the less I always go out to catch fish. The whole morning went and we only caught a bar jack, things started to look like we were going to skunk on tarpon and we started getting philosophical, “it’s fishing not catching” and so on but I wanted to catch Mike his first tarpon. So I stayed a little longer, as it happens just as I was saying let’s bring them up, the first tarpon hit! A 50 pounder! Mike fought it like a champ, although it was his first tarpon. As it usually happens, as he brought him next to the boat, the poon jump and thru the hook. Not being a captain that gets upset by those things I said to Mike, let’s do that again. We did another drift and this time the poon stayed on the hook and Mike got his first tarpon ever! Just another day in the life of a charter captain, from zero to hero in 15 minutes flat…
