Fly Fishing for Redfish has been HOT!
Recent trips have had anglers casting flies and soft plastic lures to tailing redfish in the shallow grass of the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon with the occasional gator trout tailing in the grass or waiting to ambush in sand spots amongst the flats. In some situations anglers have hooked fish within just feet of the bow on fly making for exciting takes and fights. Over the coarse of my last for trips anglers caught over 23 redfish and a few sea trout on fly alone. As for the coming weeks more baitfish will be present from migrating mullet to pin fish, and pigfish in the shallow grass and sand holes making the menu a bit larger for the species we target. Large redfish and tarpon will also be targets now through late fall from Ponce inlet through the Indian River so now is the time to plan your summer and early fall trips!!
