FAT FISH AROUND
June 30, 2021 Russell 7 photos
Winter has well and truly arrived with some very unsettled and now cold weather. There is however some good fishing to be had. Snapper are in good numbers in the bay with some good fish being caught in the shallows and plenty on the deeper rocks. Often coming with a good by catch of trevally to go with them. We have had a few terakihi in the bin lately as well, which is very nice! There are still not a lot of kingies in the bay with the best fishing to be had out on the deeper reefs or around the outer headlands. Fat and beautiful! The majority of the sharks have now gone but there are still a few lurking around on the outer reefs. The marlin have gone but there are still some swords being caught with a couple of nice ones hitting the scales in the last few weeks when the weather has allowed. Now there is good time for the hapuku on the deeper reefs with the cold water coming! Good luck out there. Tight lines

THE FAT KINGIS OUT DEEP
July 29, 2021
It has been a bit of a wet and windy winter so far but we are still managing to get out between the weather systems. Kingies are still mostly out on the deeper reefs though there are a few in the bait schools in the middle of the bay. Thankfully the bronze whalers seem to have gone elsewhere so there are a few nice kingies to be had when the weather allows. The snapper have been around in good numbers throughout the winter so far. The shallows have been producing some good fish though you sometimes have to wait a while to get the better specimens. There are also plenty of snapper around the deeper rocks and on the coast. Hapuku are still a little thin on it but we should expect that to pick right up in the next month or so. Plenty of large tarakihi are around on the puka rocks so a good feed is still to be had out in the deep. Let us hope for better weather so we can get out there a bit more. WORKUPS ON THE RADAR...
November 12, 2020
After some windy period, the snapper in the northern Coromandel and surroundings are hungry and aggressive! We have plenty of fish hooked on, both beautiful eating pannies as well as the monsters. The 20pounders are amazing to play and look at, but often best released! Jack macks have been the preferred bait for the big reds! The kingfish up around the bottom of Barrier and Channel Island are now in big numbers but seem to be slow around the island out from Amodeo Bay and Angers Lodge. Typical spring mode! The action and life out there is amazing, don't miss out! The water is warning up and we have birds’ workups on the radar… Tight lines SpotX Fishing Charters
The temperature has risen!
October 31, 2020
The weather has really turned it on here in the Bay of Islands recently so there has been plenty of activity out on the water. The water temperature has risen over 3 degrees in the last 2 weeks and the fishing has livened up. Huge schools of anchovies and mackerel, both jacks and blue (slimeys) have taken up residence in the middle of the bay. Snapper have moved into the bay in huge numbers so there are plenty around for those chasing these guys. Kingies are still inconsistent with some days absolutely on fire and other days very quiet. Sometimes hot on the bait schools and sometimes completely absent or just no one hungry. Still some nice fish on the deeper reefs though. Hapuku have spawned and have spread back out. Still there to be caught however it is a bit slower than the previous couple of months. Not long now for the game fishing to begin and with water temperatures the way they are it could be an early start to the season. However, we have seen warm water like this before at this time of the year and it often cools again before coming back up at a later stage. Stay tuned! To sum it up, it is a great time of the year to get out there! Tight lines Hamish SpotX Fishing Charters
