May has always been one of my favorite months to fish and will remain that way for many reasons. This month normally marks the start of the large Tarpon run through Southwest Florida due to the warmer weather. It also really helps bring all the Snook out of the backcountry and closer to the beaches and inlet, making them easier to locate and catch. As we head into the summer months and the water temperature continues to rise, copious amounts of bait will show up creating a feeding frenzy inshore and offshore.

On multiple occasions this month I’ve had clients catch 20-30 pound Kingfish offshore in the morning and then finish the day with either Snook or Tarpon fishing as the trip nears its end. Nothing but great fishing is ahead of us as we approach an inevitable hot summer with loads of Tarpon, Redfish and large Snook around.
