The Catch
King Mackerel (Kingfish)
Snapper (Red)

The Gatlin crew was early and eager to go fishing this morning. Today was 9 year old Asa’s birthday so we pushed off around 5:45 to make some memories.

The bite wasn’t outstanding today, but we picked up a few on each spot. Eventually it seemed to slow down, so we had to keep moving. We hit our 5 man red snapper limit by mid morning, plus landed a really solid king mackerel. We missed several nice snapper and one big shark. Also caught and released an undersized cobia.
The crew really wanted a mahi, so we ran west in search of any debris we could find. It was a beautiful day, which made it easy to see anything floating, but we didn’t have any luck finding anything big enough. We decided to put a spread out and troll for kings on the way in. We hooked up on a good size bonito, which made for a great fight for Asa.

It was a real treat watching these young men fish today. These boys have a real passion for fishing and the outdoors. Today reminded me of my own childhood and where my love and passion for fishing began with my own father. I think we need to take our youth fishing more often, I couldn’t imagine growing up any other way.

Tight Lines,
Captain Jesse
