The Catch
King Mackerel (Kingfish)
Snapper (Red)

We had another beautiful day on the Gulf of Mexico, and another great family/crew to fish with, the Nipperts.
The plan was to catch red snapper, and that’s what we did. We had several first timers on board, which is always such a blast to watch them catch and reel in big fish.

Our first spot marked very good, but only produced 2 snapper. We got a lot of bites, but they just didn’t want to hang on, so we made a move to the west a couple miles. This spot didn’t mark as good as the first, but the snapper bite was on! We had several double hookups and consistently brought fish to the boat. It didn’t take long and we had the box full of red snapper, including one that went 15 lbs or so.

We decided to troll for king mackerel after we threw back another limit of snapper or so. We had several knock downs and some drag smokers, but only boated one king and a few bonito. I wish we could have found a few more kings, but that’s fishing.

I had a great time fishing with the Nippert family today and hope to see them again soon. We will be taking a day off for the 4th and will be back at it on the 5th. Looking forward to some downtime with friends and fireworks.

Happy 4th of July folks!
Tight Lines,
Captain Jesse
