Big Kings

The Catch
King Mackerel (Kingfish)
Snapper (Cubera)

This trip was booked months in advance and moved several times.  Probably the most important trip of the year and I didn’t make a dime!  This trip was specifically for my family, my son Andrew in particular.  He had been begging me to go for months, but doesn’t realize the physical tool fishing every single day can take on an old man like me so fishing on my day off if a tough decision.  I told him I would take him so off we went.  We were about 22 miles offshore catching good sized Amberines (in the Amberjack family).  I saw some big King Mackerel sky rocketing out of the water a few hundred yards away so we put out some trollers and headed that way.  Before we could even get a second line in the water, the Penn 30W starting screaming!  I thought for sure it was a big wahoo.  Instead we reeled in a 35 pound King.  It was a fun fight and wore a couple people out.  We caught a few more kings, some on a live bait flat lined and a couple more trolling.  We ended up with 5 nice kings, 6 amberines and a nice black snapper.  It was a great day on the water and one I’m sure 10 year old Andrew will not soon forget.
