Trip Summary

The summer is heating up and so is the fishing near shore. In the gulf of mexico the bite has been great. A wide range of species, recently its really been a surprise what will show up on the end of your line. Acres of bonito are crashing bait, these range in size and make great shark bait. We spent a day throwing in shiny jigs and spoons. These fish are in the tuna family and are a fun fight on a penn battle 2500. On the wrecks snapper have been biting threadfins and cut squid. Lane, mangrove & yellow tail are enjoying our hard bottom. Our last trip out we used Snapper up a chum designed to bring them up off the structure so you can use lighter line and not get broken off in the rocks or structure. While snapper fishing I spotted something chasing my catch to the surface. Typically this is usually a barracuda looking for an easy meal. As it got closer to the surface and they came into focus i realized it was cobia! Reeling up the flat line pinfish and dropping it in front of its nose I was able to get this fired up fish to eat boat side.
