King Mackerel (Kingfish)

Another day of fantastic weather for our first time anglers. We headed out to our known King Mackeral hangout, with huge schools of baitfish showing on the sounder, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the rods went off. Sure enough the short corner diver got slammed, the custom built 12kg rod almost touched the water it was bending so hard, the TLD 20 2-speed was giving everything it had, but something was going to give, this fish was a monster. The 40kg snap swivel basically just straightened out completely, we lost the fish and the lure, exciting start to the day, but not the best ending. A few early season Black Marlin around this same spot well over the 80kg range, so sometimes it pays to have the big guns ready too. Swapped out to divers to surface skirts and went past again, this time the long diver went off, Jenny was taking her first ever fish, after a small but energetic fight, we gloved a nice King Mackeral for her, now that was a happy customer. Quickly returned, and back onto another Mack, this time Trevors turn to do battle. No monsters caught today, but a fantastic day out on the boat with a great group enjoying a fun day out fishing.
