Great Fall fishing in Folly Beach
October 03, 2022 Folly Beach 3 photos
Fall Fishing charters in Charleston and Folly Beach! You don’t want to miss fishing this time of year folks. Fishing In Folly Beach is great in the creeks and shallow water flats. Fishing in Charleston has been good along the jetties for big bull Redfish, Sharks and multiple other species. The waters around the inlet and Lighthouse are teeming with baitfish, the creeks and points are holding Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum and Redfish of every size. Bait is typically plentiful throughout the system and the weather is most often dry and comfortable. If you allow your guide to choose the target species you will likely have a productive, fun day on the water. On our last few charters we have been successfully targeting Bull Redfish just off the beach and Speckled Trout inshore. The Bull Reds have been eating mullet, Pinfish and Blue Crab while the Speckled Trout have responded to Mud minnows, Shrimp and artificials. Along with the Speckled Trout we have been catching Flounder, Black Drum and plenty of inshore Redfish so a mixed bag has more often than not been the rule of the day. Our January fishing is great!
January 12, 2023
Folly Beach fishing has been great so far this year! Warmer weather has moved back in after a week of cooler temperatures. This means the fish are back to searching for food and we are happy to show them some options! Our inshore fishing charters have been targeting Redfish. This time of year Redfish begin to gather up in schools on the flats and in the shallow creeks. Creeks that work the best are those that give the fish good access to food and shelter from predators and plenty of structure such as docks, oyster beds and downed trees. We have been enjoying good success with live shrimp, cut mullet and small profile artificial baits on light jigs. The Speckled Trout bite has also recovered from the cold snap. We have been catching them on mud minnows and small finesse soft plastic jigs cast around points and creek mouths. Most productive areas seem to be in 8 to 15 ft of water. Look for current, oyster beds and irregular shaped shorelines to give you clues on where the fish may be staging up looking for an easy meal. A slow hopping retrieve has been producing the most strikes by far. Remember to try a variety of depths to locate the sweet spot. Folly Beach Deep Sea fishing charters at the nearshore reefs have been finding Black Sea Bass, Weakfish, Sheepshead, Black Drum and some big Bull Reds! These bruisers have been cruising the surface chasing live baits. We have been able to catch them on top water plugs, metal jigs and soft plastics. Most of these fish are well over 30 inches long and have plenty of room to run when hooked so when you get connected be ready for a long fight! I expect January to provide lots of action this year so get to my online calendar and get your spot saved. I look forward to seeing you on deck soon! As always feel free to text or call **hidden content** for booking information. See you on deck!Continue reading
Folly Beach fishing in December
November 30, 2022
Charter Fishing in Folly Beach! December is one of the best months for fishing inshore for Redfish and Speckled Trout. These fish feed heavily in advance of our short winter, and now is the time to boat large numbers of quality fish. We typically focus on fishing for large schools that gather around shallow creeks and river bends, using live shrimp and minnows that are still abundant in our waters. For the angler that likes more of a skill based fishing charter we can target those fish with a variety of lures. We will cast soft plastic swim baits and crank baits. In my opinion nothing is more fun than feeling the fish attack your lure as you are working the bait past them. When you feel the fish inhale your bait a swift hook set will will get you connected and ready to do battle! On Calm days we will venture to our nearshore reefs to fish for Sheepshead and Weakfish. Both these species gather in large numbers to intercept baitfish as begin to head to deeper waters for our short winter. We will also expect to see large Black Drum ranging from 10 to 30 lbs. at those reefs. When those tough fish inhale your bait you need to lean back and lift your rod back to turn their heads away from the rocks or you may lose them to the rocks. As always it’s best to book in advance online but feel free to text or call with questions or to book directly with us. Or weather cancellation policy is more liberal in the winter and late morning start times are more common. I would love to see you on deck this winter so let’s get you out there to enjoy some of the best fishing Folly Beach has to offer!Continue reading
November fishing is the time for big num
November 7, 2022
Charter Fishing in Folly Beach in November is hard to beat. This is the time of year our inshore Charters can boat big numbers of Redfish, Speckled Trout, Black Drum and several other species. The Redfish and Speckled Trout eagerly chase down mud minnows and shrimp cast under a float rig. If you want to cast artificial baits to them smaller swim baits by Z-Man will yield you solid results without the complications and cost of dealing with live bait. Nearshore reef fishing is also great this time of year. Black Drum and Sheepshead can be found foraging around rock piles. We drop shrimp, clam strips and Fiddler Crabs directly along the structure to entice these fish to strike. When they do, an immediate hook set is required to gain control of the fish before they swim back into the structure for safety. Weather and conditions permitting we will also pursue big schools of Weakfish that have taken up residence at the nearshore reefs. If we are lucky schools of Bull Reds can be found cruising about a mile off of Folly Beach and Charleston. In summary there is no shortage of game fish to target this time of year so don’t be caught sitting on the couch. Call or text to get on the schedule and let’s go fishing!Continue reading
