Fishing Report from the Captain’s Log: 8/25/16
We met the Johns crew at 6 AM with snapper on our minds. This was my first snapper trip of September and after hearing some not so good reports I wanted to get after them early. We picked up live cigs from the friendly neighborhood bait man and headed out.
First spot wasn’t lit up but we had some pretty quick action, mostly short but we out 5 or 6 in the box. Next spot really looked good and in about 25-30 minutes we finished our limit, or so we thought. As we got buttoned up and getting ready to troll for kings, we did another count and we ended up one short. I wanted to check one more spot out anyways so, off we went and again it looked great. We were fishing with 30# fluorocarbon leader and we had two break off on the first drop. The girls finished off strong pulling the biggest snapper in to complete the limit and then we got ready to troll.
We hit some wrecks that normally produce kings, but the jelly fish were so thick they kept fouling our lures out. We moved around a few times to get away from all the jellies and finally we picked up a king and a Spanish. We probably caught 5-6 bonito in between as well.
It was great to get back out and snapper fish. The guys and gals did great and I had a lot of fun fishing with them. Hope to see them again soon.
