BLUEFIN TUNA BITE IS ON FIRE!
BLUEFIN TUNA BITE IS ON FIRE!

Bluefin Tuna season has started. We are catching them with in 5 miles of the beach. Right now the bluefin bite has been very consistent. We have caught 4 this week. BOOK YOUR TRIP TODAY. 7hr Offshore Trip is the best option right now!! The best places to catch King Mackerel is around the 15-25 mile range. The water temps in these areas are in the mid 60's, the water quality, and visibility are much clearer, and only get better the further you go. Furthermore, there are temperature breaks in these areas, half a degree can make a huge difference. Fish in areas like School House, 23 Mile Rock, or areas with good bottom structure that will hold the bait. Most productive lures have been Drone Spoons fished on #2 planers with 40ft leaders. OFFSHORE There are currently great temperature breaks in the 40-60 fathom range, North has been most productive for us, fishing Swansboro Hole, and points north along the break. This is where you can find Blackfin tuna, and Wahoo in good numbers, when the conditions are right. The most important aspect is bottom structure, look for ledges, and drop offs. Staying aware of the tide will give a better understanding on the fish bite. Focus on fishing either side of high tide, and low tide where the bite is best. When targeting Blackfin Tuna we have been using pink UV squid teasers set about 200-300 ft back from the boat, on the outside out rigger, and shotgun rods. The key to catching Tuna is to keep the lures out of the prop wash, and keep them in the choppy water away from the boat. Wahoo can be caught in the same areas, using planner rods close to the boat below the prop wash . Use small blue/white landers, rigged with small ballyhoo, skirt rigs we custom designed with sliver heads, and white/pink/black skirts on flat lines ran above the planners on the surface. Safe Travels, CAPTAIN JESSE & NATASHA
