Speckled Trout

Trip Summary

Moshay decided to surprise her boyfriend with a custom light tackle trip. Had a blast! Great folks to get started on the light tackle method of fishing. Again the target was trout. But the rockfish are so aggressive the trout could not get to the baits.

Hello Rock On Charter Fishing Community, Get ready for the latest Rock On Report – your go-to source for all things fishing in Middle Bay! Winter Striper Fishing is Here! Snow, ice, freezing rain—less than ideal, but fear not! In just six weeks, March Trophy Striper fishing kicks off with better weather. March is prime time for those seeking a personal best with 40†plus rockfish. Birds are active, but utilizing electronics on contours and structures has proven to yield fantastic trophies. Remember, metal on or near the bottom is the key, and BIG BAITS like G-eye jigs (1oz and 1.5oz) with 7’-8’ Z-man plastics are your ticket to landing big fish. Flutter jigs and spoons are also delivering great results. Perch: Metal on the bottom is enticing the perch, with schools reaching a whopping 20’ thickness. Don’t miss out on this exciting action! Fly Fishing Opportunity: For fly fishing enthusiasts, Orvis Fly Fishing Schools are coming to Maryland! Fly School USA has partnered with Orvis to bring you the Orvis Chesapeake Bay Fly Fishing School in Chesapeake Beach MD. If freshwater is more your thing, many of these techniques can also help to improve your ability to catch freshwater fish. We combine classroom knowledge with hands-on instruction and video recording to help guide you. You will have hands-on instructions on: Fly-casting techniques – including the double-haul, plus video reviews of your casting. Rods, reels, lines, and fly selection – specific to saltwater fishing. ROCK ON FISHING REPORT

The Rock on Report Middle Bay Fishing. Rockfish breaking with BIRDS. Bluefish ..mixed in with the rockfish in the bird shows. Mackerel ..they are gone as far as we can tell.. Stripers AKA “Rockfish” They are on bunker and glass minnows. LOTS of bait in the bay currently and some good bird activity in the PM. We have not had much in the way of breaking fish on our morning trips. Still have fish shallow on structure and also 20 feet plus on structure ...Top water is good very early and last light. Perch Still here and some good ones hitting 4’ paddle tails in shallow water. Spot So BIG ones are still here and if you are live lining, the “rockfish candy” ones are also being caught. Water temps are coming down and they are moving back shallow. BLUEFISH are mixed in with the rockfish in the deeper water. G-EYE jig RAIN MINNOW 1oz PINK and Silver Sparkle working great. We are also using Z-Man 4’ diesel minnows and catching both rock and blues under birds. Speckled Trout. None this week but paddle tails work the best. Cobia and Redfish Some REDs are still around. LJ from G-EYE jigs says “Just small WOLF PACKS” here and there. We marked them yesterday but could not get them to bite. Have not seen any cobia in a few weeks.
