OFFSHORE FISHING REPORT 1/5/17
Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo . Wahoo fishing is GREAT now! We fished this weekend and caught our limit 1/1/17 and 1/2/17. Most of the action for us has been around the Steeples, Same “ole” Hole, and along ledges in 30 to 40 fathoms. But it seems like the best fishing in north along Yellowfin Hole and Swansboro Hole and points between. Using #12 planner on your planner rod with a Fathom Skirted Ballyhoo has been the ticket for catching Wahoo. High Speed Trolling for Wahoo has really pickup for us. Your speed should be 9-14 knots using 32-48 oz trolling weight with 30 ft 200 lbs leader followed by a skirt rig or drone spoon. Best color combinations for Wahoo are pink/white, black/purple, blue/white have all worked. Blackfin can been found in 20-40 fathoms as well. Fathom Half Pint skirt rigs have worked the best. Best color combinations black/purple, dark blue, on cloudy days and dark green skirt with sliver head on sunny days. Dark green skirt rigs have worked the best. Must of our Blackfin and Yellowfin Tuna have been caught off the outside outriggers or on the shotgun rods. Set well back from the boat out of the white water. They can be caught in the same depths 30-40+ fathoms.
