I had the pleasure of taking Sgt. John Music (Ret. U.S. Army), his brother Dwight, and his son Jared out for a day of walleye fishing. I first met John when I took him fishing a few years ago on our Walleyes for Wounded Heroes event. He told me then he had a boy that loved fishing and wanted to bring him back up to experience Lake Erie so he and Dwight brought 14 year old Jared up. Thank you Sergeant Musick for your service! We started out in front of Cedar Point and after a pass across the dumping grounds turned netted a zero we moved near Kelley's Island on a shallow point that typically holds fish early in the morning. Shortly after we set up Jared and Dwight both caught their first walleyes ever! We made a few more passes in the shallow water and pulled several keepers before the sun angle got high and killed the bite. Between the walleye bites we had a couple colossal pull backs from big freshwater drum. These were Fish Ohio qualifiers (worthy of a certificate and hat pin from the state of Ohio) and Jared especially enjoyed those battles. We decided to make a move towards Niagara Reef and set up about a mile and a half north. We trolled crawler harnesses with 1 oz 50 to 60 ft behind the Offshore boards and had a steady pick of eater sized walleyes with a few more big drum and yellow perch mixed in. We also caught a lot of under-sized walleyes that were between 1/2 and 1/8 of an inch short of being legal. All in all it wasn't the greatest day on the lake but we caught fish and the guys had a ball. I really enjoyed the company. #Eriegoldfishingadventures
