Before we went on the trip, the Captain talked us into making it an attempt to catch Tuna when we would have been fine with just catching more fish near Catalina. The Tuna were not biting that far North so we wasted a lot of time trying to find. The Captain did find us an excellent for the burial at sea of my Wifeโs ashes which was the main purpose of the trip. When he finally did put on the biting fish near Catalina, he only let us stay there for a short time before he took us back in. Maybe we should have scheduled our trip for late Sept. or October when the Tuna might have been running farther North. It was just a bit odd, because he had talked us out of just fishing near Catalina when that is the trip we told him we wanted.
One other thing that was very bizarre was he had us using very small circle hooks and I think we lost several fish as a result. I have always used much larger hooks when ocean fishing and have never had a day where so many fish got away and I came up with a bare hook. If I ever go on a boat like that again, I will bring my own gear.

I just want to reply, bluefin fishing had been the best its ever been in Southern California while there was not too much happening at the island. The group agreed to go looking for tuna which costs me even more money in fuel but I wanted to get them on a trophy tuna. It didnโt work out unfortunately, I took them back at the scheduled time.It was not early, it was on time. As far as hooks, they were size 1 J hooks, not circle. These are the hooks that are successful for tuna and yellowtail in clean, clear water. I fish the island on a regular basis but if the customer feels he knows how to fish the Southern California fishery better then by all means bring your own tackle and gear next time. Also, you have to wait a few seconds when bit before putting rod in gear. Immediately swinging the rod when you feel something usually results in a non hook up, itโs a point a stress many many many times during a trip along with picking out a hot bait. Sorry if you feel that I let you down but I try my hardest on every trip to get people on fish even the beginners and novice anglers.

Did some Yellow Tail fishing was a beautiful trip. Would recommend to anyone that wants to have a good time fishing.
The boys stated they had an a great time and a great experience with the captain. The only disappointment was not catching many fish and wishing they could have gone further out for some different opportunities.ย I also know the captain cannot control whether fish may be biting or not. We would definitely try this again.
Great day on the water. Lucked out with beautiful weather and headed over to Catalina. Shannon was great.ย Fishing is fishing, no one can control that. We didnโt catch any yellowtail or anything large but at least had fun with a bunch of little calico bass.
Thank you for booking, had a great time with your family!
