Booked this 2 months before trip.ย The day before the was changed from 6 am to 9 am and we agreed to the change.ย The night before they called and said there was a mistake and another group had our morning trip.ย But we could cancel or go at 2 pm.ย Being 700 miles from our home, we had no choice but to agree to this change too.ย We left at 2:30 and got back at 6:30 at dusk.ย We caught 10 small fish which were released.
This was the worst charter Iโve ever bought before. They have video of the boat we thought we were Getting. Two fast outboard engines to get to where you wanted to fish quickly. They ended up putting me on a 44 ft trawler that barely can move. Live bait was not pre ordered. We didnโt get fishing for the first hour and a half and we weโre doing a Bay fishing we werenโt even going offshore. The captain seemed like you wanted a fish as much as we did. And the overall communication from soup to nuts was nil. When we did catch a halibut the asked us where our ice was to put the fish on it, are you serious $800 charter and you canโt provide ice.very disappointed.

I know fishing is a hit or miss sport. However, if you pay almost $1000 for a 4 hour trip, we expect more attention from the skipper and not an hour wasted getting bait before we even cast a line. Unfortunately, it appears our skipper was more interested in his afternoon tuna excursion than he was in helping us catch anything but trash fish in the bay. Recommend another charter.
My group and I met the captain at the marina a few minutes before our departure time. First impressions of the captain were that he was extremely hung over and said very few words to us. We followed him to the boat where we completed the payment and necessary paperwork. The boat was filthy! There was trash on the floor and it was clear this boat has not been wiped down recently or maybe ever. Once all of that was done it was time to start fishing.
The โcaptainโ spent the next 20 minutes or so trying to start the boat. He could not get the boat to start and had to call someone 3 different times to ask for help. It wasnโt until someone from our group asked him of there was an ignition kill switch. There was, and as soon as he turned the switch off the boat started right up. Then it took him another several minutes to figure out how to fill the live bait well. It was clear the โcaptainโ had never set foot on this boat prior to us arriving. He had no idea what equipment was or was not on the boat and had done zero prep work.
Once we finally get out in the bay we had to get in line for bait. Over an hour into our โfishing timeโ and we have yet to have a line in the water. It seems to me when you pay as much as we did for this trip all of this should have been done prior to our arrival.
Once we were actually fishing we unfortunately did not have much luck fishing which I know canโt be put on the captain. However one of the guys in our group caught a small shovel nose shark. As the shark came to the surface of the water the captain asked us if we wanted to keep it to eat, we told him no. At this time the captain was bent over the side of the boat pulling the shark out of the water so we could get a photo before releasing it or so we thought. To our surprise he removed the hook while the shark was still half in the water. The shark was released and we never got a photo.
Overall this was a pretty horrible experience, and I would not recommend this fishing charter to anyone. The owners of this boat should be absolutely embarrassed of the condition of the boat/equipment and the performance of their so called โcaptainโ.
