Had a great trip with Capt Kevin. Got to the ramp a little early and got to watch Capt Kevin and Vern throwing the cast name for bait. Kevin was at the dock in time and we were off to the fishing grounds quickly. Was happy to see we were running to where the fish were and not just anchored up a short distance from the ramp.
Once we arrived at the mouth of the inlet we immediately saw fish rolling and jumping out of the water. Vern got lines in the water and in minutes we were on, unfortunately with a toothy fish who cut the line.
Couple more drifts and we had a monster tarpon take the bait and was a fright train quickly dumping the line off of the 7500 series Penn reel and unfortunately lost the fish. It was amazing to have such a large fish spool a reel so fast. There was no controlling that fish. After a few more drifts it got pretty rough and we decided to head into the calmer waters.
My 10 year old daughter quickly hooked into a big barracuda and needed some help holding the rod while she fought the fish as it just keep taking line and putting up an amazing fight. A short time later the fish was boat side and in the net. After a few high fives and pictures it was released to live another day.
We closed out the day hooking a couple more fish and had a few more tarpon miss our bait, one coming up and missing it three times. Super exciting to see while we all crossed our fingers for the hookup.
Kevin and Vern are top notch, quick to answer questions and getting the right baits in the water. We will fish with them again in the future. Thanks for the great day guys!
