Couldn’t have been more pleased with the turn out of our day. We caught lots of fish, lots of big fish, and shared lots of laughs with the captain and deck hand Steve. Overall an incredible day and experience. If you’re looking for a fun filled, action packed day, give the awesome people at Lucky Lina a shot. We will definitely be back for another adventure!

We scheduled an 8 hour trip on the Lucky Lina a few months in advance.  We contacted Steve Lathi a couple of days before the trip to confirm everything and the boarding time.  Everything went off without a hitch.  We really enjoyed both the boat and crew.  First mate Steve (same first name as the Captain) was phenomenal.  We started out catching live bait and then trolled a while and caught a nice King Mackerel right off the bat.  This fish are great eating with a nice white meat when grilled or blackened.  Don’t let the name scare you off!  We also caught a nice Bonita quickly and while they are not great to eat they are fun to catch.  Once we stopped and bottom fished a couple of spots, but Triggerfish were hitting too quickly to waste too much time on.  Unfortunately, the season for them ended on 5/12/2019.  Captain Steve moved quickly to get us on some fish we could keep, but unfortunately we ran into some mechanical issues which cut our trip short.  However, the Captain got us on another boat, the Great Escape with Captain Jason and we had an excellent trip with him as well.  All in all I would definitely recommend Captain Steve Lathi and the Lucky Lina and Captain Jason and the Great Escape.  Both are eager and able to put your crew on the fish and keep you on them all day.  Great boats and great Captains with exceptional first mates, Barney is the first mate with the Great Escape.

I booked this trip with Captain Steve aboard Lucky Lina for my two teenage sons, my wife, and myself with one goal: to have a fun, safe fishing experience in the Gulf and hopefully have some success with the fishing and learn more about the saltwater fish. Captain Steve’s video is what really sold me after hearing about his personal passion to put people on fish, the amount of time he’s fished the Gulf and his experience gained from this time, and his focus on sharing the Gulf for a fun experience.  I selected the 6-hr tip over the 4 and 5-hr hoping it would be long enough to have a good experience but not so long that anyone felt burned out. I have fished and hunted all over the country with guides. I can honestly say that after this trip with Captain Steve and deck hand Steve that this was absolutely the best 6-hr trip I’ve ever experienced. From the moment we stepped up to the boat we were welcomed and made felt comfortable. Steve was cutting squid for our bait and explained where we were going to fish and what we would be targeting. He explained how we needed to work the tackle and the game was on! They put us on fish immediately and when the bite quit at that spot we quickly moved to another hot location. The tackle was sound and their knowledge of technique and tactics where spot on. We also saw a lot of dolphins at the side of the boat while fishing. It was quite a show! The 6-hr trip was the perfect amount of time. Steve cleaned our fish and packaged all species separately for us on ice. Do not overlook this charter!

Great fishing trip, had a blast!!!!

Captain Steve and his helper Steve took great care of us! They found the fishing holes for us and made it a great trip. We caught our limit and made se great memories. My son’s had a great time.
