Captain Pedro was great in his communication before the trip.  During the trip, his crew worked hard to .make sure we were on the fish we asked for.  Kudos to Captain Pedro and Luminare!

These guys work their tails off to get you on fish and are a pleasure to spend the day with. Worth every dime.

Awesome crew.  Great experience.  We caught yellow fin tuna and mahi mahi.  We ate yellow fin tuna sushi on the boat and cooked us some great fish tacos that night at our hotel.

We had a wonderful time with the guys from Luminare! Cpt. Pedro and I worked back and forth over the week prior to our trip. He did great with getting back to me and answering my questions. Due to a misunderstanding, we drove and parked at the wrong end of the beach. After calling him, we worked our way on foot to the area where the small boat would take us to his larger boat in the deep water. No one mentioned or seemed upset that we were nearly 30 minutes late. Pedro welcomed us aboard, introduced us to the crew and we started kicking tail for deeper water. It was a beautiful ride into the deep waters, lasting more than an hour; the salty water sprayed back and around the boat. Pedor kept up a steady stream of conversation, explaining the reason for the rougher patches of water as we bounced along, pointing out landmarks and sharing general information with us. The crew was very courteous, often asking if we needed drink or food. When we finally got to lunch, the sandwiches were great! We had a blast fighting in yellowfin tuna, nine of which we successfully boated. My wife and I both took a turn on one especially large one which eventually tore free. The adrenaline was amazing! Pedro even got me to gaff one of my wife’s catches. Even though I was pretty worried I might screw it up and let the fish get away, they coached me through the first two misses to success as I gaffed it on the third try. We tried for sailfish late in the afternoon with no success. That didn’t bother us though, since our day had been full and we were worn out. Pedro caught big moments on camera throughout the day, giving us something to look back on. He emailed the high-quality shots the same evening. Coming in, Luminare went out of its way to get us nearer our vehicle during the rain shower that caught us in the last few miles of our return. Overall, we had a great time, the boat and equipment was obviously well cared for and handled expertly by a crew and captain who knew not only about their craft and tackle but who also put their hearts into finding fish and getting them into the boat. That’s a success story on all counts for any fisherman: the well-maintained boat, the qualified tackle, the thrilling fight, the boated fish. At the end of the day, Pedro brings all of these home! Good work, guys!

I’ve fished in the Los Suenos area now for three years. I’ve been on everything from the expensive Maverick boats in the Los Suenos marina to the single engine pangas off of Herradura beach.  I’ve paid from $2200 a trip to $400 per trip, so I feel like a have a good range of experience in this fishing area.  We had a great time for a reasonable price on a first class boat with a capable crew. 

First the boat. It’s a custom built (Envy) cold molded machine that Pedro built about 2 years ago.  It’s immaculate and comfortable with a pair of new 300 Yamaha outboards.  We were coming back from 40 miles offshore at 30 knots.  It’s not a 16 knot panga. 

Pedro lived in the US and was educated there, so he is a great communicator in English.  He also is a successful businessman here in CR and has spared no expense on this boat.  His equipment is also first class.  Unlike many of the boats I hired on the beach at Herradura, Pedro is willing to go offshore 40 miles.  Most operators are concerned about the cost of gas and will start trolling after you are 15-20 miles offshore and rarely will get over 20-25 miles offshore to save money.  The last one I went with ran out of gas 5 miles before we reached Herradura.  Don’t worry about this with Pedro.  He likes going wherever the bite is

His mate, Elmer was the best mate I’ve fished with here.  His English skills were as good or even better than Pedro’s.  I communicated to him that I wanted to try to set the hook with the circle hook even though I knew I wasn’t experienced as he was.  He allowed me to do it (I missed the first two bites) and he coached me afterwards to help me better understand where I went wrong.

When they picked us up they had a large live well full of sardines which we used to catch a rooster and hook a giant yellowfin (which we lost at the boat).  Most guys in this price range don’t even have a live well - or if they do, won’t bother to catch live bait before they pick you up.  What a welcome change this was with Pedro. 

I’ve said enough.  I typically stay 2 months here in the winter and I plan to do a lot more fishing on this boat in the future.
