Have fished AWOL quite a few times and never had a dull trip! The boat is sick and maintained really well, and you can see they care about first impressions. The boat is Fast!! Which really helps when Tuna are showing, as this boat can beat nearly all other to get onto the fish first. Even has a toilet on board, which my wife requires to come out with me…
Andrew is a great guy, loves to share his skill set and has taught me so much. His knowledge for fishing spots, weather, tides, island history, etc..is very impressive. His energy keeps you going all day, and when the boat is on the move they have multiple speakers setup on the boat and a playlist with every genre you could imagine. Looking forward to our upcoming swordfishing trip, in a couple of weeks. Highly recommend AWOL from every aspect, I would give more stars if available!

The AWOL vessel comfortably accommodated me, my husband, our three kids, our dog, and our eventual bounty of more fish than we knew what to do with (pan-seared, ceviche, panko-crusted, fishcaked, poached… you’ll have enough delicious fish to try ALL the things!). The pre-trip instructions / packing list were comprehensive and helpful to maximize the fun and comfort of the day. The seating was comfortable (the kids especially loved the beanbag), and captain and crew provided memorable hospitality, with spot-on navigational and fishing instincts. Rockfish after rockfish, halibut after halibut (lucky to catch large, legal fish!), they patiently guided our kids in the process of fishing. They are ethical and law-abiding fishing guides! They cleaned and filleted the catches expertly - we took home kitchen-ready fish. We were also treated to a bonus sighting of dolphins on the way back. Our kids, who until that day had balked at seafood, discovered the joy of eating what they worked for, and they gobbled up their own fresh catch for dinner. We have AWOL to thank for expanding their palates! Thank you AWOL! We will definitely be seeing you again. 

I went on a full day trip with AWOL Sportfishing in August 2021 in search of bluefin tuna. First we got 2 scoops of bait at the bait barge. We traveled north near Catalina and found massive breezers of bluefin, on our first approach we hooked one in the 30-35 pound range and got it in the boat. The rest of our fish this day were the same size. From there we looked around for a better biting school and we found it, we fished the afternoon by drifting, was a steady plunker bite on 20-30 # flyline sardine. Perfect glassy conditions most of the day, learned some new tricks on how to fish bluefin better from the Captain Andrew and Crewmember Jamie, super talented guys that know what they’re doing. We were maybe a few fish shy of limits but excellent experience and will return!

I went out with Andrew Lasky of Awol Sportfishing several times this year and each time, had a great day of fishing. He is well equipped and very experienced to find any type of fishing experience you are looking for in San Diego (depending on the season). Being a relatively novice recreational fisher myself, he was very patient and always set us up for success. He also was very experienced in catching larger tuna if you are looking for more trophy fishing. Captain Taylor guided us on our six hour nearshore trip where we went for Yellowtail and Calico Bass. The experience was a lot of fun because of Captain Taylor’s knowledge as a dedicated sea Captain. For a twenty two year old young man he is a living Encyclopedia of fishing experience. I was amazed at his ability to catch fish. We caught and he cleaned 10 Calico Bass and one large Yellowtail,  enough for many meals.
