We booked two days in advance while in Cabo for the Phantom I. When we arrived at the marina Phantom I was nowhere to be seen, and the only other Phantom boat at the dock was the Phantom III, and they’re were 4 or 5 tourists looking like they were getting ready to board, thinking it their charter. I had no idea what was happening, as there didn’t seem to be enough boats. I introduced myself, to the man on the dock organizing a mix of fisherman and tourists, he “seemed” shocked that another customer arrived at the same assigned time. Next thing I knew they were shuttled off to some other boat in the marina. When the boat returns, clearly some side deal was made between them. At this point, I’m not even worried, it’s business as usual in Mexico.
The only other thing was that they assumed since it was last minute switch that we had a half day trip. Geographically it was clear they had motored back an hour off the prime fishing grounds, only to have to return to the fishing area once they confirmed the length of the trip.
Anyhow, the crew was nice, my wife and I caught some Dorado, but the management seems sketchy, with constant switching of boats. At the end of the day the boat we originally booked was sitting there and apparently chartered to someone else that day.
Obviously I wouldn’t recommend these dudes, but next time I’ll pay a litter more for a more reputable charter service.
