Great day fly fishing in the DR.

My wife and I had an amazing time with Calvin. He continually made efforts to make sure our time was top notch.  Very entertaining and brought the perfect amount of beer and lots of cold water.  The equipment was all set and he was quick to help you change your lure/rig or get your line unstuck.  I wanted to try fly fishing first, but with my limited salt water experience I had trouble casting in the wind.  Although I had a few fish chase my fly I believe my stripping technique needs some work on the warm salt water. This is a far cry from the cold water rainbows and brown trout I am used to catching.  Calvin was very accommodating when I gave up the fly and wanted to switch to something else.  He out my wife on a bonefish right away and she was very excited about that.  My wife absolutely loved the smoothness of the gear and the lack of effort it actually took to get a line in the water.  She wants me to buy the braided wire that Calvin used and is now anxious to do some spin fishing instead of the usual fly.  I want having much luck until I saw a large fish intersted in my bait. I alerted the captain and he grabbed a second rig with lightning fast speed and got it in the water for me before the big fish even moved or knew what was happening. He placed the bait like a pro and handed me the rod as the fish absolutely exploded the reel and sent us into a nice fight. After a slow next hour we decided to go snorkeling and swimming which made for a very diverse experience.  The only complaint I gave is how this rating system effects the captains so directly. I think the review should not effect the individual captains rating on the website.  One bad day can severely effect that captains reputation.  Fishing is fishing not catching and any experienced angler knows this.  One rookie that doesn’t catch anything can ruin a captains month just because they expect to “catch” fish.  It’s all about how the captain overcomes adversity and adapts the situation and Calvin is world class at this.  Not to mention the beautiful marina that he took us around and got pictures when after our 4 hours were up.  Bravo!
