We had an amazing trip with Captain Nelson, his first mate and his son. They made us very comfortable and worked hard to make sure we had a great day! We were lucky and caught 2 Mahi Mahi. Captain Nelson cooked them for us when we got back to the dock and it was probably the best fish I’ve ever eaten! I would love his recipe that he uses :)
Even better than the fishing, was Captain Nelson himself - I truly felt like I made a friend in the Dominican Republic. He picked us up the next day and drove us to the waterfall tour (also an amazing experience) and shared fresh fruit he had picked up while we were on the tour. The second day, he picked us up to go shopping at some local stores, took us to the chocolate factory and even to visit his house.
The fishing is great, but Captain Nelson makes sure you enjoy every part of your trip!! Thank you again!

My husband and I love fishing trips but this one will go down as the most memorable. Captain Nelson and his crew have the best customer service you will ever receive. Caught one barracuda but that was not the highlight. The highlight was getting to spend time with Captain Nelson and his wonderful family. From the moment you get picked up the captain will make you feel like part of his family.

On the boat you will have lots of snacks and drinks and sandwiches. The boat is the cleanest boat in the marina. I would suggest if you have a weak stomach to take zofran or ginger or use a copper bracelet as it does get choppy at times.

If you are coming to the DR you can not miss the opportunity to meet these wonderful people. We made some wonderful new friends and enjoyed ourselves so much that we can’t wait to visit again and stay in touch with the Nelson family.

From start to finish, Captain Nelson and his crew made it an unforgettable experience for my husband and me. They work hard to get you on fish. We’ve gone deep sea fishing other places (OBX, Cancun, etc) but the High Z’s boat was the nicest we’ve been on. We went after white marlin knowing that Captain Nelson and his guest had just landed a big one the prior day. The conditions just weren’t ideal the day we went out so we didn’t get any marlin, but we did get three nice Mahi (and were treated to a dolphin sighting along the way.)  I let Captain Nelson know ahead of time that I prefer diet soda and vodka (rather than beer) and he had both waiting for me, along with two pineapples they cut up fresh for us and tons of drinks and snacks. Best of all, Captain Nelson is a great cook and has a gas cooktop on the boat to cook up your fresh catch right at the marina! It was delicious and a completely customized experience. He personally picked us up at our resort and dropped us off. He even arranged a horseback tour for us later in the week with a local guide he knows and he would host a private dinner hosted in his home if you want. Captain Nelson will take good care of you — even when fish aren’t biting, you won’t be disappointed!

We booked a full day trip. We had 8 people. It was pretty rough waters so half of us were sea sick but Captain Nelson and his First Mate Jacob were absolutely wonderful! They took great care of us and we managed to hook 3 marlin that got away and my husband ended up reeling in the 4th!! Captain Nelson was even kind enough to offer us a tour of Puerto Plata! (Unfortunately we weren’t able to take him up on it due to other excursions.) Also my nephew los his AirPods and wasn’t sure if it was on the boat or somewhere else. I messaged Captain Nelson and he looked right away! They found them and delivered them back to our resort! Thanks for an amazing experience Captain Nelson and Jacob!!!!

We had a couples trip planned with a couple of friends. I really wanted to go deep sea fishing with my wife since I missed an opportunity on vacation when we married 10+ years ago. Captain Nelson made everything worry free by having great communication and picking us up to go to the boat. We spent 8+ hours on the water and ended up landing only 1 barracuda. But Captain Nelson and his first mate Jacob kept us fed and hydrated. I unfortunately spent most of the time throwing up on some of the calmest ocean waters ive seen. Captain & Jacob were very nice making sure to grab me a water and napkins after ever trip to the back of the boat.

Captain Nelson felt so bad that we had such little luck he offered to take us out again the next day. We declined due to my weak stomach issues. Instead, he insisted in taking us on a tour of Puerto Plata instead. He spent 6hrs taking us to a bunch of spots while giving his great insight on attractions, shopping and how to not get taken advantage of while dealing with local shops. 10 out of 10. A+. Absolutely amazing customer service. He WILL make sure you get your monies worth and you’ll enjoy every minute of it. If you book anywhere else in Puerto Plata, you’re missing out.
