Today, my son and I wanted to round out our fishing experience.
We started by heading out to the point and started for bait fish. It took a little bit, moving to a second spot, but once CPT Tim did, we started catching fish. Off the bottom rig, we were catching Blues, Spotted and a ton of trout (too small so released them all). Then, with fresh bait we went after shark again. Hooked four, two in the boat (one was gut hooked, so cut the line at the edge of the boat and one snapped the line). Then he showed my son how to cast and he caught Spanish Mackeral and more Blue fish.
Even though it was a hot spot, Jack wanted to crab and clam so off we went!
CPT Tim had put the fish carcass into two traps form the previous days trip. Needless to say, his traps were full and the Blue Crabs were HUGE! We picked out the biggest Jimmies (males) and threw out the smallest and all females. If we had a steamer or lived local, we would have had a bushel to steam.
Once we finished, we headed to the mud flats. There, we took off our shoes and wore socks (safety) and picked 2 dozen clams the size of my fist. You walk and look for geysers of mud in low tide or spurts of water.
Come with the right attitude, expect to get wet, bring a small gym towel for your face and sandals when you get back to the dock. Also, a change of clothes is a good idea (the harbour has restrooms) and a camera.
Making memories with your kid is the best. CPT Tim made that possible.
