We had a blast with Captain Nelson!  You must leave the port and Nelson will meet you with a sign and his Logo shirt.  Very easy to find.  He takes you to the marina(a 10 minute drive) and immediately the first mate, Yoel, took us to the boat and assisted us.  There were drinks and snacks(soda, beer, water).  They even have fresh fruit they cut up and serve. 

They put us on fish and we had a good time even though my daughter and the waves didn’t mix.  Would absolutely go with these guys again!  He offered to cook for us, but we declined as I would have been the only one eating. 

This company gets a solid 10/10 from me!

My recent experience with Captain Herrera and High Z’s was top notch. From when the Captain picked us up in Cabarete until he dropped us off in the afternoon the service and experience was some of the best I’ve had on a fishing trip. Captain H and his first mate were very friendly and helpful throughout the fishing trip, making it a truly personable experience. The boat handled the water well and the fishing equipment was of high quality. Unfortunately we only caught one fish, a 3+ foot barracuda - a specimen I’d never reeled in before, so that more than made up for the lack of bites. Although there may be other fishing ventures in the area that appear to offer higher value, I would definitely join Captain H again, but likely on a 6 or 8 hour trip that would allow us to get into deeper water.

I have been on a few fishing charters (Seattle, Hawaii, Texas Gulf), and Captain Nelson provided the best service by far. Food and drink was available from the moment we boarded, and he made us feel at home right away. He readily assisted my 85-year-old mother and made sure that she was comfortable.

Unfortunately, after six hours, we didn’t catch a thing. However, the next day, Captain Nelson picked us up at our resort, cooked us a Mahi Mahi lunch at his home, and then drove us to the chocolate factory, rum factory, and shopping as a consolation for not catching fish the day before.

From fishing on his boat to meeting his family, Captain Nelson is a gracious host. He clearly loves what he does. We now have a friend in Puerto Plata and will definitely return.

Booking with High Z’s is worth the money and then some. Thank you, Captain Nelson!

The first day we went it was extremely rough out in the water.  After ninety (90) minutes of fishing we turned around and went to marina.  It was a day before tropical storm Beryl came through.  Caption Nelson suggested he take us a different day and consider the day at no cost.  Thus, he was givjng us a second chance to go out.  Fortunately we were around for another week, we schedule six days later and went back out.  Much better water second time around.  We caught nice Mahi about 30-35 lbs.  also two other small yellow tails.  Had few others jump at the lines which looked nice size.  Then we hooked a marlin,  it appeared near 200lbs.  We fought the fish for 100 minutes and got it within 15 feet of the boat when the line snapped.  We had our momdntbif being so pumped sharingvthecrod to reel this guy in thinking we would have an epic fishing trip.  It was still a very good time.  Crew filet the Mahi, which we took half of the fish home and ate for over a week on this fish.  Best eating we had, awesome ceviche and grilled, pan seared Mahi it was incredible!  In addition to the fishing trip Captain Nelson also took time to show us around the area, drove us to the waterfalls, helped me find a speciality bakery to get a cake for my daughters birthday.  Very very friendly and helpful.  This was an excellent decision and we will look forward to doing it again soon!  Next time I have a feeling it’s going to be truly epic!  Thank you Nelson.

This was one of the highest quality fishing charters i have ever booked. Captain Nelson and his mate Joel were truly amazing people and they did everything they possibly could to make us happy the entire day.

To start, we booked the 6 hour trip with Nelson. This was my first time in the DR and I didn’t quite know what to expect. Nelson told us that he’d pick us up on our resort (Lifestyles) at 6:30am. We got to the area where he said he would pick us up around 6:15 and he was there ready to go!

We drove a very short way to his boat and were off out of the marina at 6:40 to go fishing. Not five minutes out of the marina we had beers in our hand and the snacks were flowing! I was very impressed with the service we had received from both Nelson and his mate Joel.

On top of the great service we had received, the fishing was pretty good too. It was a slow day but we still managed to get hooked up with 4 MahiMahi. Nelson did a very good job finding the fish and his mate did a good job helping us get them into the boat.

When the day was over we made our way back to the marina trolling the whole way in in hopes of one last fish and once we were docked again Nelson and his mate cleaned the fish and cooked it up right on the boat for us. Not only is Nelson a good captain but he’s an even better chef! The fish was delicious and we ate and ate until there was nothing left.

Now I may have mentioned a few times that Nelson provided excellent service but this didn’t just stop when the trip was over. He informed us that he would bring us around and show us more of Puerto Plata at no cost! He said he could bring us to many of the excursions that the resort offered for a fraction of the price! (Had we known this before we paid the resort for our excursion we could have saved hundreds of dollars.) However we did have a free day and we decided to take Nelson up on his offer and we went out to the cable car up the mountain. Our resort wanted 69USD for the cable car trip, Nelson got us in for 10USD and even gave us a tour of the area up top! He didn’t leave our side once and he was there to answer questions and provide information.

Nelson is a truly amazing person and I cannot say that enough. When I come back to DR I plan on fishing with him again and again because I wouldn’t want to go with anyone else. I also will use him to do the excursions and save money too. Without a doubt this was one of the best fishing charters I have ever been on and I really do look forward to fishing with Nelson and Joel again in the future.
