VERIFIEDHorrible Fishing Experience with Captain Robert Broestler
-From the start he complained about us being 15 minutes early. He never introduced himself or asked us who we were. He was uninterested in making us feel welcome
-he was constantly yelling and cussing at us.
-He constantly snatched the poles out of our hands, and was pissed if we lost bait, the bait we caught. He insulted us for a fish getting off the hook.
-He would cast for us most of the timeโฆwhich is part of the fun of fishing. Basically he fished, not us.
-Anytime a fish was lost he huffed and puffed with attitude and would use abusive language at us.
-He took 4 of our mahi mahi fillets without asking and then told us โI hope itโs okay but I took 4 fillets but there should be 4 full meals for you there.โย โ he has no idea how long our trip is or how many we are feeding when we get back. He never asked, because all we heard was him talking about himself or complaining and yelling at us.
-Once we got back and he filleted the fish he said โHereโs the total price, are you going to tip, cause I stayed over and now Iโm already behind.โ Which we never asked him to stay over. He made that choice. Mind you, we showed up early but still had to stop for gas and ice. the trip started at 5:30am. We started catching bait fish at 7:00am. So he wasted 1.5 hours of our trip. For him to make us feel guilty for that and expect extra money out of it is just ridiculous and wrong.
We helped him clean the boat throughout the trip so he wouldnโt have to โspend 3 hours cleaning up afterwards.โ (his words).
Absolutely no one in our party was rude or cursed. We brought one small bag and no alcohol. We had no trash and ask questions politely. And when we did ask questions he made us feel dumb, like we were supposed to know the answer. We were polite and constantly felt as though we needed to apologize because of the constant yelling and insults towards us.
The experience was not fun. It was way more stressful than anything.
This was supposed to be a wedding gift from one person to another and Captain Robert ruined it.
We basically paid hundreds of dollars for the captain to fish, for him to keep our fish without asking first, and to be insulted and abused us the entire time.

These folks showed up without anything to drink. It is customary on many boats to stop for gas and ice in the morning. This was on my time not theirs. They were not very responsive to any of my instructions. They were 17 minutes early to the marina. I did say yโall are early. You did not need to be this early. This person says I was complaining about this? I did not even expect this kind of response after the trip. We caught bait. It did take longer than usual this day. There was no live bait fish to be bought. It was very choppy and the boat was maxed with people. Several complained of not feeling well. I gave the word I had two seven ups they could have. As I began to figure out they had nothing to drink or eat, it was almost the end of the trip. The two drinking the sodas said they were glad I gave them to them. They were hung over from The night before and Were dehydrated and in need of some energy.
I was told to put them on some bigger fish and ones they had not already caught. They said they had done the bay Fishing on kayaks. I latter learned what they had caught. They had not really caught good sized fish in the bay, only up to a one Lb speckled trout. If the trip had been in my decision, we would have caught two lb average specks, top of the slot redfish ( good chance), and bailed on some delicious mangrove snappers for some good fast action and good table fair.
I never once cursed at them! I did curse a boat driver who headed at me for a few seconds. He was not paying attention to where he was going and I had to react very quickly to avoid a close call. I might have cursed the Gulf of Mexico a time or two. The words I might have used are shoot, dam, and crap. My mouth rarely ever goes beyond that. So, for cursing I am guilty. I did not curse at the people on my boat. However I will watch my mouth from now on.
If anyone did not want me to make a long cast for them, they could have said something. In fact they could have said something during the trip about a lot of things it appears.
As for the fish at the end of the trip, they did not even bring a cooler with them. They had made the impression they would have only a little time to eat the fish together. They had caught 25 head of mahi mahi. I fixed them up with ice bags around the bags of fillets and all into a larger ice bag I supplied for just an instance. They had two meals bagged up for easily 4 people. Two bags at about 3.5 lb each. There was a little left over I could have divided into the bags. I left the four little fillets in the ice bucket and Delivered the fish to my customers. I asked if it would be ok if I had a couple fillets for my dinner. I got no reply, they just looked at one another. I repeated my question and one said go ahead I guess. I would have bagged the four fillets up for them if I would have had any idea they would be missing them.
Iโm not a mind reader. I can most of the time figure out when someone wants me to cast for them to reach out to an object or dock holding fish. I did cast for them a lot when I could. Each time I did they got lots of bites and hook ups. Iโm sure by me casting at the cooler we found floating in the Gulf, loaded with little one lb mahi mahi, we caught twice as many fish as we would have if I had not. I donโt have a problem with folks casting. Iโm not a mind reader and I like to come in with a load of fish or at least catch and release stories.
This is a case of someone who had no idea how being on a chartered fishing vessel would be or how to communicate with the captain.
