We started out trolling and Capt. Russell wasn’t very happy with our success so he got us set up for some shark fishing….........all as we watched a massive storm begin to blow in. He got us on a shark fast, but my daughter lost it. And then the storm caught us before we could get another line in the water. It was a hard rain but only lasted about 30 minutes…....but it just added to our memories. After the rain, the bait fish vanished and Capt. Russell couldn’t get us a bite until he found the culprit. We mistakenly brought two bananas on board and he scolded us (pleasantly of course). He educated us on the superstition about bananas on boats and we immediately threw them overboard….....in 15 minutes we began seeing hoards of bait fish and my daughter was hooked into a shark. So we ended the trip with a 5-ft black tip shark and a great video of my daughter trying to land it. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip.
Never forget (with whatever guide you choose), you’re going “fishing” and not going “catching”, nothing is guaranteed…..........I just hope you find a guide like Capt. Russell who will make the most of the trip and work his tail off to find you fish. He did that for us and I am sure he will for you too. I’m sure plenty of guides would have blamed the weather and called it a day, but Capt. Russell was determined to get us a shark.
I’ve been on plenty of guided fishing trips and I know firsthand that a guide can ruin a trip even if you’re filing a cooler full of fish….....so trust me when I say that Capt. Russell will make your trip memorable and pleasant. If you want some serious fishing with a personable guide who is respectful, professional, and knowledgeable, then look no further.
Our boat ride was 10 minutes from the marina to the start or trolling and the shark fishing was all in the same general area as where we were trolling…........so you’ll spend more time fishing and not riding around in a boat to the fishing spot.
His boat was clean and comfortable for 5 of us and even spacious enough for the shark to drag my daughter all over every inch of his boat.
This was a family outing for 5 of us and we will definitely re-hire Capt. Russell on our next trip to Orange Beach.
PS…..don’t bring any bananas.
