Our party of 5 with minimal experience fishing and none offshore booked a 10 hour offshore trip for an August Saturday. We aimed to catch Bluefin Tuna and Haddock.
We shipped out at 5 am, fished bait for an hour and then set up for Bluefin. One our lines caught a couple of Blue sharks which broke a couple lines and forced us to cut one. Unfortunately hit the slack current by the time we got the lines set up again so we couldnโt land a Bluefin. We then pivoted and fished Haddock for the rest of the afternoon. Thankfully they werenโt shy and we landed quite a few to take home.
Captain Ronnie and First Mate Matt (his son) were friendly, competent, professional, and knowledgeable. They taught us how to handle the rods, fish bait (for tuna), rebait hooks, fish haddock. As beginners, we tangled lines quite a bit and didnโt always pull up haddock, however Ronnie and Matt were patient and able to get us back to fishing quickly. Everyone in our party landed multiple haddock by the time the trip was over.
The boat was well-maintained and clean. Thereโs room below deck to store what you bring and the cabin comfortably handles 4 and 5 with a little squeeze. There are enough rods for everyone to fish at the same time, although you run the risk of lines tangling by nature of current and proximity.
Overall I would strongly recommend Boston Harbor Charters to anyone looking to experience offshore fishing, new or experienced. It was a shame we couldnโt land a Bluefin but thatโs life and it didnโt diminish our experience. Maybe weโll be luckier next time!
