The guide was extremely unprofessional. He took us to what he called โa private property his wife use to work atโ and the ponds were almost completely dry. Unkept and had not been cared for in what looked like over a year.
He had a fit and yelled at me when I got my line stick in a tree. Scolded me like a child and went off on a tangent about how the locals hated visitors on their island and how people leave trash behind.
Had us walk a quarter mile thru an area of sticker bushes, brush and tree limbs that were taller than we were. He said we were bush whacking. ๐คฆโ๏ธ
This trip reminded us of when we were kids sneaking into private pond areas we were not supposed to be fishing.
At one point I was afraid we may get into trouble for fishing the area we weโre in, when he took us to a back corner behind a bunch of brush and scolded my husband for being out in the open and didnโt want him to be seen.
The guide spent most of his time fishing himself instead of tending to either of us. The only bait we had were small live fish that he kept in a floating bucket and had us wait for another bait until he was ready to give us one. He would walk in the front of us fishing and then tell
us to cast into the same area he had already fished.
He would scold us if we keep the bait on our lines out of the water for too long. If we needed a bait and he was fishing he would sigh and say hold on a second let me finish what Iโm doing and I will bring you one and he would continue on fishing until he felt us getting impatient. Very negative and seemed extremely unhappy to even have us with him.
Several times during the trip both my husband and myself had to stand there and watch him try to catch a fish in the corners of the pond as we did not have bait and he had control of the bucket. One point my husband was getting frustrated so he went to get his own bait and the guide told him, wait I will get that for you but my husband kept going for a bait so he said do not use the larger bait as those were for the bigger fish. ๐คฆโ๏ธ
By the time the trip was over with both my husbands and my shins were on fire from the sticker bushes and bleeding.
He took photos of us and the few fish we caught (estimated 8-10 fish total) and said he would send the link to us after the trip but never did.
We did not tip this guide due to him being disingenuous, unprofessional, unfriendly, his negative attitude, the fact that he was more worried about fishing himself instead of being a guide and we both felt like the trip was deceptive.
We were both afraid to say anything to the guide as he picked us up from our room and we felt trapped by him and would not have a ride home if he left us.
