I had wanted to book a local charter for a few years now. My two sons are completely new to fishing and I was just hoping for a day of good weather and maybe a fish or two. Captain Bob Strange of Strange Magic Fishing Charters turned out to be an ideal choice! We went out with him early Tuesday morning for a half-day trip. Bob was really terrific and even educated us while underway on the natural features and wildlife of this beautiful part of the country. He pointed out several Bald Eagles along the way!

When it was time to fish, Bob showed the boys how to cast and then use various techniques for the different species we were after. In only a half-day, we fished the ocean just off the Little River inlet jetties and then fished the inlet itself. We then worked our way north through the Intracoastal Waterway, fishing near docks, piers and creeks entering the ICW. On the day, we fished with cut bait, then Gulps and spoons and finally with live minnows popped behind a bobber. We ended up with quite a mixed bag! Ribbon fish, croakers, sea bass, a sea perch, some nice fluke and a beautiful pompano. We kept only the pompano.

Back at the dock, Captain Bob fileted the fish and, on his suggestion, we took it over to nearby Crab Catches Restaurant in Little River, where they cooked it for the boy’s lunch! Both boys agreed that this fresh, white-meat pompano was the lightest and tastiest fish that they had ever eaten.

In summary, I was just hoping for a day of good weather and that the boys would have a good time and might be inclined to continue fishing in the future. Captain Bob and Strange Magic Charters made this very likely to happen!
