Looked for a saltwater fishing outfit; didnโt have a clue. Picked them for the name, Warrior Poet (WP): my Alma Materโs team name and I scribble a little doggerel myself.
Easy booking (afternoon trip) , reasonable price. Parked in a reasonably priced (after validation) garage nearby and the maps directions took us to an empty lot owned by the National Park service. We got directed down the correct pier. Got to where we could see the boat. The captain was feeding a sea lion some fish scraps.
After introductions, pleasantries, and shoving off, Captain David let us know what was available and my Grandson and I went for the fight. Grandson caught his first fish ever, a forty (plus) pound bat ray, and almost landed a seven gill shark of about seven feet (tore the line). I caught a couple leopard sharks. This was around Tiburon (yep,Spanish for shark). David then fired up the WP.
What a glorious feeling to be humming away to and out the Golden Gate in this 32โ vessel to the rocks. Rock fish. Lots, and good to eat. Beautiful day, then gray.
We came back into the bay, almost got run over by a sail boarder, and did a little drifting for stripers and such, but choppy and windy won, and we headed in, having had a complete day and no seasickness.
David treated us like kings. He treated and supported my 12-year-old grandson well,ย complete with cleaning our fish and letting the grandson feed the sea lion. David was a knowledgeable guide, fisherman, and skipper. Great trip, good company, well worth it.
Of the Warrior Poet we will ever have epic tales to tell.
