Let me start by saying none of us like going out and not catching anything. We are always talking to each other on the VHF and cell phones about what’s biting. We started this trip catching live bait to have so that if we came across any Mahi Mahi while we were offshore we have the bait for them. There was already a boat catching them. I called him on the phone and he said he was almost done. We waited for him to finish and moved in to where he was. It cut down the time it takes to chum them up on our own. Got the bait then went to the reef where we started trolling. Talking to the other boats that were already trolling and it wasn’t very productive. Did that for a little bit before heading offshore. There was scattered seaweed with some larger clumps that we worked as we got further out. Went out 10+ miles looking for Mahi but no luck. Heard a few boats shark fishing get bites. Decided to head back in there to give it a shot. The whole time I am listening and talking to the other boats about what’s going on with them. Ran back in from offshore and set up shark fishing. Did that for about an hour and got a bite. Unfortunately the fish fell off a few minutes later. Talked to a couple of boats that were bottom fishing around the wrecks without much luck. Decided to keep trying for another shark until it was time to head back. That’s pretty much how the trip went.
Booking fees and commission have been a part of this business since long before I got involved in it. I don’t know any boat that doesn’t mind paying them. We get trips from websites, hotels, other boats, friends, and anywhere else we can get them from. Usually when we get clients from other places we give them a card and say “next time you want to go out just call us directly” so we can have repeat customers. I’ve had people call back other boats that gave us trips and sign up again thinking they would be with us only to find out they aren’t.
This is the first time I’ve responded to a review. We don’t have many reviews to begin with. It’s not something I’ve really pushed with my clients but feedback is appreciated.
