We had an amazing day that we will never forget. The whole crew was prompt and organized, spoke great English, and had amazing attitudes that were energetic and infectious. The day startled strong with a couple of black tuna landed just as a group of dolphins followed us all morning! We agreed to start trying to land a Mahi Mahi since that was what was the hot catch. By late morning we had hooked into a massive (35-40lb) Mahi Mahi, which jumped spectacularly as Jose set the hook and handed me the pole to fight about 50 yards out. After a ten minute fight that left me drained, I had the Mahi to the boat for what we assumed to be a final spear before hoisting it over the side of the boat. Unfortunately, they missed the chance to spear the fish before it went under the boat, catching the line and breaking the hook off. You can see the last thirty seconds of the fight and the beautiful fish in the uploaded video to judge for yourself.
They were very upset and clearly made a mistake, which I tried to dismiss as just part of the game and continue on. Though, that was the only big fish we hooked that day, and the other boats on the water were also unlucky. We continued fishing for snapper and grouper, which we caught many of (small).
Other than that one mistake, we had an incredible day. They still were the only boat on the water to even hook a Mahi, and we caught many other fish to keep the day lively. The crew was amazing and made us laugh all day long. I would definitely go back out with this crew and boat, and Iโd highly recommend them.
