Half Day with Travis
Half Day with Travis
VERIFIEDTwo part review:
1. Captain put us on some amazing fish. He was very accommodating in terms of rescheduling our trip do to a family emergency. The boat was immaculate and we caught plenty of amazing fish including a shark!! Travis was very knowledgeable and a very skilled fisherman.
2. However, I am not a SC native and everyone of my associates I spoke with in Florida in reference to my experience was appalled that we werenโt allowed to enjoy any redfish as our guide was opposed to harvesting them for personal consumption. My partner, a retired Vet of 25yrs and myself a cardiac surgeon felt as though Travis was wound pretty tight and detracted from our experience. He constantly made us feel inadequate because we lost gear despite several attempts to inform him that money to replace his โGEARโ was not an object. At one point we just sat down dejected. He was very uptight about his poles as well. Meanwhile we could have used our own gear that we brought had we known this wouldโve been the case. He on several occasions expressed his displeasure with us and we felt as though we were third graders being chastised. Had it not been for our professional demeanor this could have very well took a turn for the worse!ย
Other than that we enjoyed ourselves and celebrated my partners retirement we grew up in New York and this was our first time seeing each other in almost 20 years. Nonetheless we still had a blast and enjoyed each otherโs company!!

I would first like to say that Iโm sorry you felt that away about harvesting redfish. I explain with all clients the day of the booking about harvesting fish. A lot of people do not know about how our fishery is being pressured and over fished due to fishing regulations being very relaxed in a very populated city. Iโm an advocate for redfish conservation so I explain that very clearly to see wether or not it will meet the customers needs. If my clients express to me that they are not okay with that any time before the trip I always recommend them to someone else because Iโd rather my clients be happy catching fish the way they want to. You had 2 weeks to make that decision to try and book with someone else. I have no problem keeping just enough fish for dinner but I had explained that I donโt keep reds depending in certain spots so that I can go back there and catch them again for other clients if we are having a slow day. 2nd as far as the gear and rods go. I do a 5 minute introduction as we are making our way to the first spot about the doโs and donโts of using the rods. IE, making sure you donโt reel the swivel into the guides so it doesnโt break the rod tip or teaching you how to using the corks and how to fish. The only mention of gear on the trip was about just one cork that got snagged. No big deal. You asked about how much it cost and I said โ10$ but the cost of the trip pays for lost gearโ. Most people have never fished this way so I am a teacher for the first hour. I teach people how the tides work so that they have the best chance for a hook up. Things such as making sure clients understand ocean currents so that the line doesnt get sucked into the trolling motor and break the rods. Now with that said, you told me thank you for all my patience a few times during the trip so at no point was I aware there was any issue of what you have posted. You guys were happy as could be and were making jokes at each other and at me as well. I mirror my clients personalities to make for a good experience. You gentlemen are the first clients to have been offended by my teaching methods on how to use the gear. You also said you were freshwater fisherman and donโt have much experience with saltwater fishing. So if at times you were missing the fish I would try to critique and explain what to do differently to so that when you had another shot you could capitalize on the next opportunity. The two styles are very different. I wish you shared these thoughts While I was trying to help you. At the end of the trip you told me that I did a great job and that I earned a great review but with this review Iโm really confused. I hope this experience doesnโt deter you from doing another saltwater inshore trip.
