What can I say besides loads of snook and trout on a day that any other guide, (that I know of) would have rightly struck out. The night before we went out a cold front rolled in, (52F) and at 7:30AM on the big day it was blowing at 30MPH!!
Captain Joey recommended that we wait it out till 11AM, (if it fit my schedule) before we head to Flamingo. Great move on his part as the wind died down and although it warmed up to
72F, we still had to deal with that fishing-killer-dreaded cold front.
I stopped counting after we had landed about 20
Snook and roughly the same number of sea trout. Captain Joey simply left CES to fish. The man is always smiling. At first I thought perhaps he had gas but nope, he just loves to fish and further, he really loves it when his guests hook up!!
I donโt know where we were fishing aside from
Going North out of Flamingo in his super comfortable vessel. Amazing casting platforms and he tirelessly used his electric to position me, (after he had studied my casting style and angles) for the easiest casts.ย Now that part is crucial, I mean itโs SUPER-CRUCIAL when you are fishing the mangroves. You need to really cast in to tight spots and boat positioning is everything.
What a day! Not much into fishing? Not problem. We saw three manatees, cool. 2 alligators, really cool. 1 salt water crocodile, very, very cool. An eagle flying above us with a fish gripped in itโs talons, amazing. But the best? A mama dolphin and her baby swimming around!!!! Simply wicked!
I just read what I wrote above and it sounds fake darned it but itโs not! It was a fabulous day on so many levels itโs hard to believe but I assure you that what I attempted to describe is 100% factual
I would and I will recommend Captain Joey to close friends. Why only close friends? Well Iโve found a good thing you know what I mean? Iโm not going to just give it away! Itโs like your honey hole for largemouth you know? You tell close buddies where it is, not aquatintences!

Things justHave a way of working out in the end for some reason the weather forecast was 57ยฐ and snook and other fish donโt like the cold weather but for some reason my buddy Allan got lucky and we pulled them out one after the other after the other great day on the water
