6 hour Day with Captain Andy Diehl Helper Thomas Huttunen
VERIFIEDFished for 5 1/2 Hours and on our way in we hooked and landed a 90-LB Yellow Tail. They then told us they haven’t caught anything for 27 days straight. Not to mention Andy was complaining most of the trip to my wife how bad the company was treating them. And the boat was a wreck! Very dirty and unorganized!!!
Back to our fish. They immediately asked us if we wanted to purchase a trophy for our fish, and how much of the catch we wanted to keep, we told them 20 Lbs and we planned on donating the balance to the resort where we’re staying. Being they had another trip right after ours, we told them we would come back to retrieve our catch. When we returned, I was filling out the paperwork for our mounts/trophy process we wanted to do. Andy was starting on the filleting price for our fish on a bench! (Gross)! Not a fillet table! Then he took half of our fish and said he donated it to a funeral? Didn’t ask our permission just did it. What a crock of S#%^ they were going to sell it! Plain and simple.
I normally check the reviews on just about everything I do for restaurants to services etc. Once I did. Andy and Thomas’s track record was HORRIBLE!!! Huge mistake on my part! I figured Fish Booker was on top of things like this. However, I’m not blaming them. I’ll take the bullet on this.
I wouldn’t recommend the Bite me 3 boat EVER!!! I don’t know much about the rest of their boats or crews. But this turned into a Nightmare. I hope this helps? You can check trip advisor for a review my wife posted. And I will be doing the same along with my brother in law.
At least we caught a beautiful and delicious fish.
Best regards,
Brian Rowland

Aloha,
I apologize it has taken a moment to respond to this review. Being summer and busy season, plus we felt the need to get some information in order to respond. We like to be very honest in our reply and this review took some investigating.
We want to thank you for your review, good or bad we look forward to feed back so we can better ourselves as a company. We have read both reviews you have wrote on this site and Trip Adviser as well. Let’s start with the boat. The Bite Me 3 is a well-kept vessel that most our guest enjoy. We apologize if you felt it was not up to your standers. On to the fish…...We cannot understand why our captain would tell you he had not caught fish in 27 days!! The fish report we are required to turn into the state on a monthly basis for each boat tells me a different story. The Bite Me 3 had an amazing month in June fishing. Plenty of fish caught, July started off good too…. The day before your charter he caught a tuna and ono. The day before that he caught a marlin.
When a review like this comes to our attention the first thing we do is talk to the captain and crew. Both were very surprised by the reviews your wife and you have left. They shared the text messages between Captain Andy and Mr. Roland. Being unhappy about the charter or the fish was ever mentioned, you came back the next day and mounted your catch and picked up your fish to eat, he even sent you photos of your fish.
Now this brings us to talk about your fish you caught….
For your information; When a fish is cut, we cannot sell it any longer. Filleting the fish is a curtesy for the customer that we offer. Not a right. The crew let you take what you wanted of the fish you caught and the rest was donated to a local family that recently lost a loved one and they were very grateful. The Bite Me fleet donates a lot of fish every year. Last month we donated over 500 pounds of cut ahi to the food bank (Hawaii Food Basket) to help the family’s that lost everything do to the volcano. This month we will focus on the hurricane Lane folks in Hilo that need some help. Trust me when I say we take care of our community when we have extra fish our guest cannot take.
We let our guest take as much cut fish they can use while on vacation. If you wanted the entire fish, you could have taken that as well; but you must be prepared to cut the fish yourself and have a way of transporting it. A lot of our serious anglers do this and take it home with them as checked bags to fill up their freezer. But once again, you must be prepared to deal with that fish. The “bench” that was used to cut the fish is actually a fiberglass dock box that can be used for cutting, seating and storage. The hard plastic makes it a perfect fish cutting table. You will find plenty of them at the harbor used for the same purpose.
We hope this clears up some of your concerns and you had safe travels home. May we ask that you do not book with us again.
