We went for smaller fish this time, which is way more fun for the kids, and in this case, was very productive. I'd recommend the near shore trip if you're looking to go with some younger kids.

Remember sometimes you may not catch anything at all. As anglers you know this and for first timers do not expect to catch a fish right away or at all. Enjoy yourselves, relax, and have fun- you’ll have a good chance of dolphins and sea turtles!

Normally the cold current comes through in April. It was early, led to tough fishing as the clean blue water was way out 35-45 miles (way beyond the range of most charters). But that’s fishing. Reach out and discuss your fishing trip hopes and expectations with the captain. Be ready to shift plans based on what the area is actually producing.

The boat had plenty of cold beverages for us. We did bring our own lunch, 7 hours on the water is a long day. So bring lunch!
