Cabo Fishing Produces Three Marlin Encounters
A five-hour charter provides a relatively compact fishing window because travel time must be included in both directions.
On December 5, productive conditions came together for Jim's group.
The Blue Star connected with three marlin during the morning.
Marlin fishing requires constant observation. Crews watch for birds, bait concentrations, surface activity, current boundaries and changes in water color that can indicate productive water.
Once a marlin enters the fishing spread, the situation can change quickly.
The crew must manage the remaining lines, assist the angler and position the boat appropriately throughout the fight.
Jim's group successfully fought three marlin during the charter.
All three fish were released in accordance with Blue Sky Cabo's standing policy of releasing marlin.
Cabo Dorado Adds Variety to the Catch
The group's fourth gamefish was a dorado.
Dorado are recognized for their brilliant colors, aggressive strikes and spectacular aerial fighting ability.
They are highly mobile and frequently move with concentrations of bait, floating debris, weed lines and current edges.
Finding both marlin and dorado during the same five-hour trip demonstrated the variety that Cabo's offshore fishery can produce when conditions line up.
The Blue Star's 32-foot Luhrs configuration was also well suited to the four-person private group.
Everyone remained close to the fishing action and could share each hookup as it developed.
The final result was an excellent morning:
Three marlin caught and released.
One dorado.
Four anglers.
Five hours on the water.
A catch like this isn't guaranteed simply because anglers choose a particular date or charter length. Fish move continuously, and productive water changes from one day to another.
That unpredictability is part of offshore fishing.
On December 5, the Blue Star made excellent use of the available five-hour window and returned at 11:30 AM with four gamefish recorded and all three marlin successfully released.
