Cozumel deep sea fishing really is some of the best on the planet. The waters around the island are visited every year by a who’s who of big game pelagics. Blue and White Marlin spend the whole summer here, and Sailfish are around for over half the year. Add in Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi and it’s no wonder there are so many great charter boats docked in the harbor!
What Can I expect from a Deep Sea Trip?
Some of the best deep sea fishing Cozumel has to offer is found less than an hour from the dock. Even on a half day trip you can expect some solid hookups of Marlin and Sailfish. This makes it a great place to start out with big game fishing, or to get the family into the sport. Not to say this is just for beginners, though. Even the most seasoned anglers will be put through their paces in the deep blue waters offshore.
The ultimate goal for many a big game angler is to land the Billfish Grand Slam and Cozumel is the dream location to do it. During the summer you have a solid three-month window where Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Sailfish all swarm the surrounding seas. Couple that with the short travel time and you really do have a shot at pulling it off.
How much will it cost?
Half day trips start somewhere around the $500 mark for a 30’ boat and can work their way up to vessel double in size and in price. Full day prices can be as little as $650 but can hit $1500 and beyond for top-end cruisers.
The bar is set pretty high for charters boats in Cozumel and very few vessels will disappoint. You get what you pay for, though, and if you want a slice of luxury on your day out you could do worse than to shell out for a more high-end boat. These will have the very best hardware, professional, English-speaking crews, and food and drinks as standard.

Bring sunscreen and take some Dramamine 1hrs before your trip to avoid sea sickness.

If your debating between the 4 hour or 6 hour trip I would fully recommend doing the full 6 hour trip. We caught half of our fish in the last 2 hours of the trip. Gives the crew the best chance to get you on the fish.

Stay in Cozumel and fish there. We stayed south of Playa and it was too much traveling early in the morning for my family with a 3 year old.
