Deep Sea Fishing in Cape Canaveral
Deep Sea Fishing Cape Canaveral offers many exciting opportunities. The Atlantic Gulf Stream is only 50 miles out. There are offshore wrecks, rock ledges, underwater reefs, and the Gulf Stream of Mexico, known as ‘the Other Side.’ If you are looking for big fish, you’ll get what you came for.
Where, when, and what to catch
In Cape Canaveral, deep sea fishing is not too far off the shores. You can easily start dropping your line up 20 miles from the coast. Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Wahoo are all hard to pass by. They patrol the waters up to 40 miles out. A full-day trip can get you right on top of those monsters. Various types of Sharks, Grouper, and Cobia are also ready to put a fight.
But once you venture 60-130 miles out, the ‘reel’ fun begins. Even though it might seem that you need to cover a lot of ground, landing some reel screaming pelagics is worth it. You will need a 20-hour trip to get to those big guys but with Marlin and Tuna on the cards, we will mind?
Yellowfin Tuna, big Mahi Mahi, Marlin, and Wahoo feed on migrating baitfish far out from shore in the Gulf of Mexico, the ‘Other Side.’ Go out anytime from late spring until early fall. Fishing is especially hot during the summer months.
Apart from the heavyweight catches, there are a lot of other exciting deep sea species available year-round. Yes, that’s right - the season is always open!
How to fish
Most Port Canaveral deep sea fishing charters will either bottom fish, troll, or combine the two. Trolling with artificial or live bait can produce Wahoo Mahi Mahi. Bottom fishing is done for Scamp, Snowy, Red, and Warsaw Grouper, as well as Snappers and Amberjack. Cobia, Sailfish, Sharks, and Kingfish are also a target, especially if you go up to 35 miles out.
Deep dropping trips is another name of the game in Port Canaveral. If you want to experience the thrill of catching some of the best-eating fish around, just find a local captain.
Go anywhere between 30 and 60 miles out. Your guide will equip you with electric reels and other heavy duty gear to battle what’s hiding at 300 and 800’ of water. Tilefish, Amberjack, and various types of Grouper are all among the popular catches.
