Deep Sea Fishing in Key Largo
Deep Sea fishing Key Largo is all about the indigo blue waters of the mighty Gulf Stream. A charter there is a good bet for anglers of all skill levels. The Key Largo’s fishing grounds are famous for its incredible catches. If landing a big fish is your agenda, you have come to the right place.
Wher and what to catch
The outer reef line starts just about five miles off Key Largo. It is so close to shore that you can almost see the blue waters. There, they fall to 100’ and keep on dropping. It’s beyond there where the warm current of Gulf Stream becomes a highway for game fish.
If you head only 60 miles off the coast of Key Largo, you will reach some well-known islands with pristine sandy beaches and abundant marine life. Bimini, Chub Cay, Paradise Island, and the turquoise waters around them are home to some incredibly exciting fish species. Yes, a real Bahamas fishing adventure is only a few hours away from Key Largo!
Key Largo deep sea fishing is great year-round. The most popular catches include Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Tuna, Cobia, Kingfish, Wahoo, Marlin, Swordfish, and many more. Just venture beyond the reefs and enjoy the hunt.
How to fish
In the spring and summer months, the Mahi Mahi population explodes. You will be trolling lures and rigged baits to locate schools of those beautiful creatures. Once you find them, it’s going to be a feeding frenzy. Mahi Mahi’s voracious appetite is unforgettable! Fishing for Mahi is also great in winter. Plus, you won’t have to travel too far out - they bite pretty well just 25 miles offshore. You will definitely want to keep Mahi Mahi for dinner later, along with some other fish species.
Key Largo’s coral reefs offer some of the best grounds for Sailfish. You will be fishing just outside the reefs with ballyhoo and a light spinning rod for one of the fastest fish in the ocean. It is also possible to have a bait on a bottom rod to catch the acrobatic fish. Believe us - when Sailfish is hooked, they put on quite a show.
In addition to the beautiful Mahi Mahi and acrobatic Sailfish, you can target Tuna, Wahoo, Sharks, Barracuda, and Cobia just to name a few. Grouper, Kingfish, and Snapper are common catches when you fish with a bottom rod. There are also Marlins and Amberjacks around, ready to hook your bait.
When planning a fishing trip to the deep blue waters, you should consider booking a Swordfishing charter. You will be looking at an extended full-day trip either during the day or later at night. Swordfish are caught at deep dropping.
