Deep Sea Fishing in Rockport

Rockport deep sea fishing charters rarely come back to the port with empty bags. And understandably so. The Gulf's waters get super productive once you get past the 50-mile mark. The longer you travel, the more exciting the chase will get. And what a chase it can be! Yellowfin and Blackfin Tunas, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin, and Sailfish.

One thing to know about the deep seas out of Rockport, is that they’re not for the faint-hearted. Once you get past the rich flats and bay waters, it can take hours before you manage to get hold of a trophy game catch. But, with a seasoned crew, a stable boat, and plenty of patience, full day trips should be sufficient. You'll have the strongest chances with a longer or a multiday trip, however. That way, you can scout out some truly deep waters and see what’s biting there.

Rockport Deep Sea Fish

Anglers with stamina and patience will be nicely rewarded. The federal Red Snapper season runs throughout the summer, so get those downriggers ready to land this prized creature. Don’t forget that closer to the shore, state waters are open year round for tasty Snapper.

Once you reach deep waters, you'll be able to get Mahi Mahi and Wahoo. Season and weather play a big role here, especially for Wahoo, as these elusive fish can be out of sight, then come after the bait out of the blue. Literally!

Also, Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna are a possibility. It’s best that you go around deep water floaters and rigs during the night. That’s when the bait fish come up to feed, lured by the lights. You never know with Tuna, though. Trolling can get them even in broad daylight if you have enough bait fish to spare.

As for Marlin and Sailfish, Rockport is no exception to the rich shores of the Gulf. These beauties can be found 60 miles offshore and further out, which means that you need at least a full day trip to make it there and back with a worthy catch. They are famous for a reason and getting them in the Gulf is a real feat. With the help of a local charter, you're sure to get them to bite but the real action comes when trying to reel them in. Muster your grip and be patient with them.

Be prepared for south TX weather! It could be freezing with the wind on the boat one minute and the next you're burning up.

You have to have a guide for much of a chance to catch fish. Difficult and limited fishing only from shore.

Bring sun protection... Garrett has al the equipment you will need to fish from the boat. If you want to wade fish, you'll need to bring your own gear.

There are not too many places to stay in Rockport right now so plan to stay a distance away and drive early in the morning to get to your Captain's boat. We stayed in Corpus about an hour away and it was a smooth trip.
