Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Morgan

Providing direct access to the vast and plentiful Gulf of Mexico, the deep sea fishing Fort Morgan, Alabama isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re willing to take the plunge, however, you’ll be rewarded in kind with some of the world’s most sought-after big game fish!

What to Expect?

Fort Morgan’s most productive deep sea fishing grounds lie miles from  shore. If you’re a less experienced angler, most charter captains will take you to the deepwater wrecks and reefs that start appearing around 20 miles from shore. Here, you’ll troll for King Mackerel, as well as targeting tasty Grouper and Snapper species, including Red Snapper. This fish is subject to strict regulations, so make sure you check out the open season dates to avoid disappointment!

Once you reach waters 60 miles out onto the Gulf, you’ll start to encounter the real beasts of the deep. Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna dominate these waters, and provide serious rod-bending action. Captains recommend opting for an overnight trip if you want to target these species – this allows for plenty of time to reach the hotspots, and is also when the Tuna really come out to play.

If you’re a Billfish fanatic, you’ll be thrilled to discover that a variety of Marlin can be found off the coast of Fort Morgan. Prepare to travel at least 100 miles out to battle and conquer one of these hard-fighters. It’s a long journey, but the payoff makes it seriously worth it!

How to Prepare

Basically, the only preparation you’ll need to do before your trip is brush up on your old fish tales for the journey out! Your captain will make sure you’re equipped with all the fishing gear you need, and your license will be covered, too. If you’re sensitive to water conditions, bring along some seasickness medication. That way, when you begin your adventure from Fort Morgan, you’ll be fighting fit and ready to battle the beasts of the deep!

What anglers said about Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Morgan

Be sure to make sure you are leaving from a marina near the place you are staying at. It is a long way around Mobile Bay and the ferry does not run very early in the morning. Also look for the red snapper season to be in if that is your target.

Only way to go is a private charter. Don't like to bad mouth anything, but do not waste your time on the 'GS fishing pier'. It is hit or miss and overall not productive. My family wehn on two charters during the week and caught plenty of fish on both. We went in early May and the timing was so-so. A little after one of the breeding runs and prior to snapper season. Would recommend early June next year to my group.

Try a party barge first or boat. Itโ€™s simple. The smaller boats with less people are great fun.

Little rough out there but it's not a farm pond. You're on the Gulf. What do you expect.

Find a charter and book with them directly. We were called by a different company than the one we booked on Fishing Booker telling us we were canceled. Glad I persisted and found it was incorrect.
