Deep Sea Fishing in Oregon Coast
The Oregon Coast is beautiful, we all know that. What you may not know is that it looks even better when you’re looking at it from a boat, getting ready for that first bite of the day! This is what makes deep sea fishing on the Oregon Coast such a memorable experience.
Which Trip Should I Take?
It’s hard to go deep sea fishing when you’ve got limited time available, but not impossible! However, if you’re after the full Oregon Coast fishing experience, then you’ll want to book one of the longer trip options available. These allow you to search deeper waters for bigger fish, and that’s the dream right there.
Half Day Trips
Different Rockfish species are the main target of shorter deep sea trips. These bottom dwellers make for great table fare, and four hours is plenty of time to catch your share. If you’re lucky, you might also nab a few Lingcod.
¾ Day Trips
This is where things get really interesting, as the extra few hours mean a lot when you’re headed into the deep blue. Now you can count on a steady stream of Lingcod all year round, as well as Halibut from May until November.
Full Day Trips
If you’re mainly interested in trolling for Albacore Tuna, then you should look for 8–10 hour trips at the very least. This is because you need to go some 40+ miles when targeting this popular species. Other than Tuna, longer trips allow you to go bottom fishing for the biggest and most delicious Halibut around.
How to Prepare
Your charter captain will provide you with most of the things you’ll need, including rods, reels, and terminal tackle. The only thing you need to provide is a valid fishing license for all anglers over the age of 12.
If this is your first time fishing in the state of Oregon, you’ll be surprised at the variety of angling opportunities found within. It only takes one trip to get you hooked for life!
