Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Myers
Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Myers
Known to many as a spot where you could land a “Backcountry Slam,” Fort Myers is an angler’s paradise. Alongside inshore fishing, you also have access to one of the world’s best fisheries – the Gulf of Mexico. Step aboard one of the numerous deep sea fishing charters in Fort Myers and the sky’s the limit when it comes to what you can catch.
Beyond the barrier islands lie reefs and, just 20 miles from shore, you can get your hands on Lane Snapper, Amberjack, and Cobia. Head out further and not only do these creatures get bigger, but they’re also joined by a whole host of other prized fish. We’re talking Gag, Red, Black, and Scamp Grouper, along with Kingfish and the elusive Red Snapper – when the season hits, that is.
Over 75 miles out, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and deepwater Groupers lie in store. Marlin, Sailfish, and even Swordfish and Tilefish are possible when the waters reach 600–1,000 feet. For this, you’ll need an overnight trip at the very least, while all other species require also spending upwards of 10 hours on the water.
Get ready to practice your bottom fishing skills and go after the fish that live along the ocean floor. You’ll also try trolling to land some of the topwater feeders. If you’re a little more adventurous, you can give fly fishing a chance. But beware, landing any of these beasts won’t be easy, so come prepared to test your skills and strength to the max!
